Jega retired as INEC chairman

After five years in office, Prof. Attahiru Jega hands over to Mohammed wali as the new acting chairman of the body till the President appoints a new chairman of the body. After 8 hours, report from the Secretary to the federal

government issued a memorandum confirming Bala Zakari as the newly appointed INEC chairman.

Jega became the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission in June 2010 and ended his tenor 30th June, 2015.

This is not surprising as he has always said that the 2015 would be the last assignment he will do as his tenor is constitutionally coming to an end and that he will retire as the chairman even if he is asked to continue.
